Elephant Baby Shower

I've been helping to plan a couple of baby showers lately and I thought I would share this adorable shower idea.

This Elephant Baby Shower theme is so stinkin' cute! Of course being an Alabama fan I love ANYTHING elephant :) I found this sweet shower at One Charming Party. There is also a tutorial on this site that shows you how to make the amazing elephant push toy. This would be great for a boy, girl or neutral baby shower.

Enjoy and Happy Wednesday!

It's Party Time!

So my BFF is getting married in the next couple of months and as the MOH (Maid of Honor) I am in charge of planning the bachelorette party.

I LOVE planning bachelorette parties! It doesn't matter if I'm the MOH or even in the wedding for that matter. I have a blast with it. I've been dying to share all the great things I'm planning but I didn't want to give away the surprise so, I decided to give ya'll a "sneak peek" since the big party is next weekend.

The party is a weekend long affair in New Orleans, LA. I ordered this insanely cute invitation from the fabulous shop Em & N Designs on Etsy and I am totally in love with them. They were so helpful with this custom invitation and totally affordable.

I decided to take the Fleur de lis theme on the invitations and just run with it (I think I might have gone a little overboard, but oh well).

All the guests attending will receive a JBW (Jackie's Bachelorette Weekend) Survival Kit. I ordered these great canvas totes from the Etsy shop Happy Family. Aren't they awesome?!  This sweet tote is going to be filled with all sorts of goodies that are essential for surviving a weekend in New Orleans.

One of the items in the tote is this cute Flower Ring.

I saw these on a crafting segment on the Martha Stewart Show and knew I had to make them for the party. They were SO easy to make and you can customize them to any color you want. Plus they won't make you have a seizure like those blinking rings you see at bachelorette parties.

So that's it for the "sneak peek". I can't wait to post all about the FABULOUS party when we get back.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Kiss Me I'm Irish!

How adorable are these cupcakes?

I was feeling in the St Patty's mood last night so I thought I would whip these cute cupcakes. I came across this idea from Bird's Party Blog. LOVE this site! They used some chocolate candy lips but I thought it would be cute with wax lips. So I looked all over Huntsville and couldn't find any so I decide to print out some clip art lips on card stock and attach it to a lollipop stick and... ta da!

To make the cupcakes I just used a regular vanilla cupcake recipe but I totally cheated with a store bought can of icing. I just added green food coloring to make it festive.

LOVE these cupcakes!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Recession Beer

This weekend I went to Walgreen's just to pick up some essentials and Michael came across this beer called Big Flats 1901. Was it a fancy label or a unique bottle shape that caught his eye? Nope, it was the price. $2.99 for a six pack. Yup, you read that correctly, $2.99 for a six pack of cold beer. What a nice surprise when the gas prices are inching towards $4/gallon. I was super sceptical, but Michael was gun ho on giving it a try so we swooped up a six pack and headed on our way.

So last night we decided to crack open a can. The label said "Lager Beer" so this looked like it had some potential. I sniffed the beer and it smelled like it would be more of a Bud Light type beer (some much for LAGER) and then I gave it a taste. Um....gross. It was like flavored water. It tasted more like a Natural Light type beer.

We were disappointed but then again I guess you get what you pay for. We poured it out and now I'm stuck with 5 ickey beers. Anyone know any college students I can donate this to?

Good try Walgreen's but I am definitely willing to walk, ride a bike or clip some coupons to save some money before I skip out on a decent beer.

Happy Monday!

Jewelry Tree

So I've seen these fancy jewelry displays on the internet and magazines so I thought I would try to make my own.

Supplies:

a glass vase from TJ Maxx $5
2 bags of glass stones @ $3 per bag
High gloss enamel spray paint from home depot $3.74
Little birdie from Michael's $1.99
Branch from outside FREE

I spray painted the branch a white high gloss enamel. I think it looks better in high gloss. I did about 3 coats.

I love a good bargain at TJ Maxx. You could probably find a vase as cheap as $2 depending on the size.

I used a mix of clear, blue and white glass marbles but i think river rock would look great too.

I layered the colors of the marbles but all tossed together would look just as nice.

Final touch was the little birdie. So cute!

I think I will try to make another one that has thicker and shorter branches to put on my dresser. This one was a little too big but not a bad first try.

Martha Bakes...success!

So last weekend I attempted to try a pound cake recipe that was on my favorite show "Martha Bakes" a couple of weeks ago. If you haven't seen this show, set your DVR right now! Every Monday on the Hallmark Channel, Martha Stewart gives a basic recipe like pound cake, cheesecake, etc and then does a couple of variations of the recipe.

In the pound cake episode she did a classic pound cake, Meyer Lemon pound cake, cream cheese pound cake and a Semolina cake. I decided to try the cream cheese pound cake recipe and it was amazing!

I could have eaten that whole bowl of batter!

I couldn't find my pound cake pan so I had to improvise with the aluminum pan and some smaller molds I had.

Don't forget to flour the pans!

The smaller molds obviously didn't take as long at the larger pan. Everything was so good and so easy. I totally recommend giving this recipe a try!

Happy Monday!
